Mati & The Music: 52 Record Covers 1955/2005
A limited edition book of 500 numbered copies – Thomas Erberʼs Cabinet de Curiosités at Browns is the only place in the UK where this stunning meeting of music and art will be found. This vivid publication is made an even greater sensory experience by a double album of a previously unreleased Miles David concert from his legendary ʻBitches Brewʼ European tour.
Mati Klarwein straddled the creative crossroads of painting and music. From the end of the 1960s, musicians including Miles Davis, Carlos Santana and Jimi Hendrix recognised the statement of intent in his art and used it to convert their record covers into evocative manifestos. Antoine de Beaupré has found over 50 signed examples of Mati Klarweinʼs iconic album covers, spanning almost every genre from classical to electro-jazz. For the first time ever, the book presents the album covers in their entirety, accompanied by relevant texts, photos and documents, and a preface by the writer Serge Bramly (Prix Interallié 2008), a life-long friend of the artist.
