Cascade of pearls
A stone rich in elegance and long forgotten by modern craftsmen has become a subject of intense examination for Grecian fine jeweler Melanie Georgacopoulous. Pearls have now become a signature of her work, with every handcrafted piece taking months to complete, from design to execution. Hundreds of hours are spent filing, sculpting and slicing these precious items with her very own hands.
For Le Cabinet de Curiosités de Thomas Erber, Georgacopoulous has chosen to produce just one statement piece. Using the idea of drapery in jewelry she has woven together a series of cascading pearls that slowly diminish in size as they descend and encircle the wearer’s body. The contrast between hardened silver and the softness of the hand-sculpted pearls demands that the item be worn against the skin. Sensuality abounds in this one-off piece of extravagant elegance.
